1989 Mack Superliner II – Ex Australian Road Train Legend

This 1989 Mack Super-Liner II is a true piece of North Queensland and Australian road transport history. Originally built for RTA ownership, the truck spent its early working life transporting fuel across Australia before beginning its long career in heavy road train operations.

In 1993, the truck was sold to Ron Moffatt Transport in Mareeba, where it became a familiar sight hauling triple road trains throughout the north. Built tough and made to last, the Super-Liner earned its reputation over decades of hard work in some of the harshest operating conditions in the country.

Originally powered by a Mack E9 400, the truck was later upgraded by Mack Trucks to the legendary E9 500, giving it even more pulling power for heavy haulage duties. The driveline features a 12-speed Mack gearbox paired with 44,000 lb diffs running 5.07 ratios — a combination purpose-built for serious road train work.

One of the most remarkable features of the truck is that it still wears its original RTA paint scheme, preserving an authentic piece of its working heritage.

After an incredible career spanning more than three decades, the Super-Liner was finally retired in 2025. The truck has now changed hands for only the third time in its life, purchased by Garth Lambert of Atherton, North Queensland, who plans to give the old girl the tender loving care she deserves while preserving an iconic chapter of Australian trucking history.
